The goal of the Observatory of Equity is to provide the capacity and the tools for CDES and the Brazilian society to follow the process of coping with the inequalities in Brazil.

Its methodological strategy articulates the technical and political dimension as part of the political pedagogy instrument that intends to build and deliver knowledge to support propositions from CDES as well as from society.

The themes to be observed are based on the main directives and consensus achieved in CDES and on its capacity to promote debates, either within the institution, or with society at large. The technical group of the OE is comprised by members of the Applied Economic Research Institute (IPEA), Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Inter-union Department of Statistics and Social-Economic Studies (DIEESE) and CDES Secretariat. This group defines and implements the necessary technical procedures to study the issues posed by CDES. In addition, it maps the information as well as governmental and nongovernmental actions related to the referred challenge, preparing reports.
